APPAREL

This is the section where I look in-depth at Rufus' outfit, pick it apart, and put what is probably way too much meaning into everything he wears and why.

FFVII THREADS

Ok, let's start by describing his outfit:
It consists of a white double breasted suit jacket overtop an elongated white vest, a black turtleneck, and white dress pants.

The Jacket's collar appears a medium gray, as is the top of the pockets, but I strongly believe that these may actually be black but take a gray shine due to the nature of the material and also possibly were colored so that the jacket collar does not blend into the black of the turtleneck. This is one of those personal opinion things, but I've seen the suit made both ways and it looks better in black. The jacket has 8 black buttons.

Underneath, he wears a sleeveless white vest that extends beyond the suit jacket, falling about mid-calf length. The vest also has a pocket on each side, but the tops aren't lined in gray. The vest has approximately 12 black buttons.

Below the vest, he wears a long sleeve black turtleneck and white pressed suit pants, secured by a brown belt (to match his shoes).
Underneath that? We'll just have to use our imaginations, won't we?

He wears black gloves with the fingers cut off and brown shoes (even though black would look better, honestly).

AC THREADS

Rufus' Advent Children outfit is change from his old suit, but not by too far. He keeps a lot of major elements, most obviously his penchant for white suits, but also for wearing enough layers to keep him warm in an igloo.

Here we can see that illustrated:
[1] Layer one looks to be a black button-up dress shirt. Probably long-sleeve. The white layer underneath this first layer is not clothing, but bandages, just in case there was any confusion.
[2] The second layer also looks to be a dress shirt, this time white with about seven smaller buttons. Also probably long-sleeve.
[3] Layer three is a black vest. Sleeveless, most likely silk, and with three fabric buckles with metal fasteners.
[4] On top, a single-breasted suit jacket. Rufus' jacket this time actually has a very faint silver pinstriping, as you can see in the detail shot. He also has a double pocket on his right side.

Also, pants, which are for some unknown reason incredibly huge and baggy. I guess they were less restriction during all that wheel-chair sitting? Beats me, seriously.

PSYCHOLOGY

Why does Rufus wear white? I do believe that it is probably due to a subconscious need for everything to be clean and orderly. Rufus is a person who likes to get things done, and get them done right the first time. He's also the type of person who leaves a clean trail and no loose ends behind in his business. White reflects this part of his personality. Since white picks up dirt and stains so easily, it shows that he is a very careful and calculated person.

On a more conscious level, I think he wears white to appear bigger. It's a fact that black is a slimming color, and that white makes things seem a bit larger. Rufus is a small framed man who isn't very physically intimidating at all. He probably wants to make a strong, memorable impression wherever he goes, and the white suit certainly aids that.
