Who are Tseng and Rufus?

Tseng and Rufus ShinRa are non-playable characters from a game called Final Fantasy VII. If you haven't heard of it, you do in fact live in a hole and probably aren't looking at this site. Anyway! Rufus is the sole heir to the Shinra Electric Power Company who takes the role of President after his father's death during the game. Tseng is the leader of ShinRa's elite faction of private bodyguards, the Turks.

More about Rufus

Rufus ShinRa, in the past, has been mis-classified a villain. In FFVII he comes off callous and cold-hearted, spouting his views concerning the way the world should be run (through fear rather than money) and showing little concern for the well-being of the people. This singular view on Rufus is not all there is. Yes, Rufus has the capacity to be a sadistic dictator and we see in Before Crisis that he was calculating at an early age. Skewed morals? Yes, definitely. But. Through the entirety of FFVII, Rufus is spoken of admirably, even by Barret. We see that he is charming, witty, and has a rather sarcastic sense of humor. He shows no fear even in the face of Diamond Weapon, which brings down the very building he is in. In Advent Children, we get proof that Rufus is not all bad. A repentant Rufus, humbled by the fall of his empire is looking to set right the wrongs he has done in the past and rebuild his company from the ground up. The boy has determination, give him that. As I have a tendency to ramble on, I'll wrap it up. Who is Rufus ShinRa? He is refined, calm, clever, oddly philosophical at times, charismatic, and possibly just a bit unhinged. He's a leader and he will never accept his own defeat. Still want more on Rufus? EMPIRE. (/shameless self-pimp)

More about Tseng

The first word that comes to mind when describing Tseng is "business-like". This is pretty accurate. He is the leader of the Turks, and before that, a commander. Until fairly recently, we had very little information about Tseng. FFVII was all there was to go on. Now, with the release of BC, AC, CC, and Last Order, we're seeing more and more of the man beneath the immaculate blue suit. Who is Tseng? He is the epitome of "by-the-book". He's cold, slightly condescending, stoic, and intimidating. Even in the face of death in the Temple of the Ancients, he is completely calm. Seem a little too perfect? In truth, beneath that icy exterior, Tseng actually has a hot temper. We see him angry when Hojo is taking Cloud and Zack for specimens after Sephiroth burns Nibelheim. We also see it when he slaps Aeris in the helicopter (though that was probably mostly for show, as he seems to rather like her later on). He also occasionally shows a bit of a soft-spot for people in spite of himself, which we again see with Aeris. The logical conclusion here is that a lot of Tseng's coldness is a way of detaching himself from the horrors he sees in his daily ine of work. Not that Tseng doesn't love his job -I doubt there's anything else he'd rather do- but as a Turk, his options are deal or die. Overall, the most about Tseng's true nature is reflected through those who know him. The other Turks do not seem truly afraid of him though he's 'the boss'. They are unwaveringly loyal to him and respect him greatly. Reno does seems to like to talk about Tseng's love life, and we know that Elena has a crush on Tseng that almost extends into hero worship; He even asks her on a date. AC doesn't give us much more, besides that Tseng is alive and still standing loyally by Rufus' side, even after being captured and tortured in the Northern Crater.

The Relationship

The first thing I would like to say here, and no offense to anyone, but this fanlisting was not created because 'OMGYEYYAOIRUFUSANDTSENGARESOHOT!!'. This fanlisting is about the relationship between the characters- Romantic, platonic, business, friendship, and everything that exists in between. Yes, I am a strong supporter of the pairing, but I wanted to make it clear that this isn't just about them jumping into the sack.
